Who is responsible

The short version
Your training stays on your phone. Gymjoy shows no ads, has no tracking and no analytics code from anyone else. The only thing that leaves your phone is the coach chat, and only when you use it.
What stays on your phone
Your workouts, plans, records, settings and progress photos are stored only on your phone. We never receive them. If you turned on Android's backup, Android keeps a copy of your training and settings in your Google account under Google's own terms; progress photos are never part of that backup.
The coach chat
When you use the Coach tab, our server receives and keeps:
- what you write, our answers and when each was sent;
- a random chat ID that the app keeps, so your conversation comes back when you open the app again;
- the app's version and the store it was installed from;
- your phone's IP address (the first and the last one we saw), which every connection to a server carries.
We use this to answer you, write training plans, help with the app and keep the chat safe from abuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (the chat you asked for) and, for keeping it safe, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The coach is an AI, and our team reads along. To write an answer, the conversation is sent to an AI service provider that processes it for us. Please do not share health details or other sensitive information in the chat: the coach does not need them to help you.
Who else handles data for us
- our hosting provider, whose servers are in the United States, with a backup copy in Germany;
- Cloudflare, which carries and protects the connection to our server;
- the AI service provider that helps write the coach's answers.
They act on our behalf under data processing agreements. Where data reaches the United States, this rests on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep the coach chat while you use it, and delete it when you ask us to: how to have your chat deleted. Our encrypted database backups are kept for three days.
Your rights
You can ask us what we store about you, have it corrected or deleted, limit how we use it, receive it in a common format, and object to its use. Write to us in the coach chat or at [email protected]. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
Children
Gymjoy is meant for people aged 16 and older.

When this policy changes, the new version appears here with its date.
